Check on Your HSA Before the Year Ends

At Caring Podiatry, we know that many of our Monmouth and Middlesex County patients have Health Savings Accounts (HSA) that they use to pay for medical expenses. These plans allow you to cover healthcare needs with pre-tax dollars. Sometimes, however, you overestimate how much you’ll spend in a year. If there’s money left in your account for this year now may be a good time to consider getting some extra help for your feet. There are podiatric costs that not all insurance companies cover. Below are some ways to put those remaining HSA dollars to good use for improving the health and comfort of your feet.

Custom Orthotics— Our podiatrists, Andrew Schmierer, Craig Shapero, and Mark Fillari may prescribe custom orthotics to treat a number of podiatric disorders including: flat feet, diabetes, arthritis, plantar fasciitis or tendonitis. Orthotics help correct biomechanical defects and protect vulnerable spots on your feet. If your insurance doesn’t pay for orthotics, or they pay for one pair, and you’d like a second to wear in a different type of shoe you may want to use your HSA to cover them.

Laser Treatment for Fungal Toenails—If you have toenail fungus you know how unsightly it is and also how long it can take to eradicate. We offer the Q-Clear Laser Therapy which can help eliminate toenail fungus faster than topical treatments and without the side effects of oral medications.

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)—This FDA approved, non-invasive treatment can greatly reduce chronic and acute pain. Some conditions that patients have experienced relief through ESWT include: Achilles Tendonitis, Plantar Fasciitis, Heel Spur Reduction and tendonitis in the feet.

Medical Equipment—Your HSA money may also be able to be used for special podiatric equipment that can reduce pain, increase stability, and make it easier to walk and perform daily activities. The Moore Balance Brace, for example, has helped many patients improve balance and reduce their risk of falling.

Before the year is over, contact our Monroe Township (609-860-9111) or our Neptune (732-455-8700) offices to find out if there are ways we can improve your podiatric health.
