Time’s Running Out for HSA Accounts

It’s hard to believe, but the holidays are rapidly approaching, and that means the end of the year is right around the corner. If you’re one of our Monmouth and Middlesex County patients that use a Health Savings Accounts (HSA) to pay for medical expenses, we at Caring Podiatry want to offer some options for your unused balance. HSAs allow you to cover healthcare needs with pre-tax dollars. If there’s money left in your account for this year, you may want to consider investing it in some extra help for your feet. Below are some podiatric treatment options that may not typically be covered by insurance. You can use your remaining HSA dollars to improve the health and comfort of your feet.

Laser Treatment for Fungal Toenailstoenail fungus is unsightly and it can spread to other parts of your feet and body if left untreated. Traditional treatments can take a long time to eliminate the fungus. We offer the Q-Clear Laser Therapy, which can eradicate toenail fungus faster than topical treatments and minus the side effects of oral medications.

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)—this FDA approved, non-invasive treatment has been shown to dramatically reduce chronic and acute pain. Patients with conditions such as Achilles Tendonitis, Plantar Fasciitis, Heel Spur Reduction and tendonitis in the feet have all received pain relief with  ESWT.

Custom Orthotics—specially made for your unique feet, orthotics can assist in correcting biomechanical defects and protect vulnerable spots on your feet. Our podiatrists, Andrew Schmierer, Craig Shapero, and Mark Fillari may prescribe custom orthotics to treat a wide range of podiatric disorders including: flat feet, diabetes, arthritis, plantar fasciitis or tendonitis. Some patients whose insurance will pay for one pair of orthotics often choose to use HSA dollars to get a second pair to wear with a different type of shoe.

Medical Equipment—your HSA account can also be used for special podiatric equipment. The Moore Balance Brace, for example, improves balance and has reduced the risk of falling for many patients. There are other assistive devices available as well that can reduce pain, increase stability, improve your ability to walk and perform other daily activities.

Don’t wait, contact our Monroe Township (609-860-9111) or our Neptune (732-455-8700) offices to find out how we can improve your podiatric health.
